KANSAS CITY, Mo. — This June, the heartland of America becomes the center of the soccer world. Kansas City is set to host six matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 — the largest sporting event in human history — at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, with the city’s six-week run culminating in a quarterfinal on July 11.
The full match schedule places Kansas City front and center on the global stage from the tournament’s opening weeks. Four group-stage matches are scheduled for June 16, 20, 25, and 27. The June 16 opener pits reigning world champion Argentina against Algeria in what is expected to be one of the most-watched matches of the group stage. Ecuador faces Curaçao on June 20, Tunisia takes on the Netherlands on June 25, and Algeria meets Austria on June 27. A Round of 32 knockout match follows on July 3, with the quarterfinal concluding Kansas City’s run on July 11.
Kansas City beat out larger metro areas including Orlando, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. to secure its host city status. The city is one of 16 host sites across Canada, Mexico, and the United States for the 48-team tournament, which will feature 104 matches — the most in World Cup history.
Hotel capacity has been a key focus of preparation, as officials estimate hundreds of thousands of international visitors will travel to the metro area across the six match days. Transportation infrastructure, public safety coordination, and fan zones throughout the downtown core are all being built out in advance of the tournament’s kick-off.
Mayor Quinton Lucas described the World Cup as “a golden opportunity” to showcase Kansas City on a truly global platform.
