Kansas City Ballet is closing out its run of The Wizard of Oz this weekend, with the final performances at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on October 22 through 25.
What the show is
The production, choreographed by Septime Webre with music by Matthew Pierce, follows Dorothy and her companions along the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City. The score is performed live by the Kansas City Symphony. A review in KC Studio praised the production, which features company dancers including Naomi Tanioka as Dorothy and Alladson Barreto as the Wizard. The show is presented by Seville Home.

Before the curtain
The ballet offers a pre-curtain talk called Belger Footnotes, hosted by Artistic Director Devon Carney. It starts one hour before the performance and explains how music, special effects, and costumes create the magic on stage.
Practical details
The performances are in the Muriel Kauffman Theatre at 1601 Broadway Boulevard in the Crossroads. The Arts District parking garage attached to the Kauffman Center is the primary garage for patrons, and the ticket office opens 90 minutes before each show. Teens can find discounted options through TeenTix KC.
What’s next for the company
The Nutcracker runs from November 28 through December 24, followed by New Moves, Pinocchio, and Romeo & Juliet later in the season.
Why it’s worth it
A story most families know well is a gentle way to introduce someone to ballet, and live orchestral music makes it feel like a bigger event. With only a few shows left, now is the time to check ticket availability.
