The Divine Nine and allied fraternal orders have long stood as pillars of leadership, service, and cultural identity within the African-American community—and the St. Louis Argus is proud to introduce a dedicated space that reflects that legacy.
For more than a century, the Argus has documented the stories that matter—those rooted in struggle, triumph, institution-building, and generational impact. At the heart of that story are the organizations that have shaped Black civic life: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc.—collectively known as the Divine Nine.
Alongside them stand other enduring fraternal and service institutions that have strengthened the fabric of our communities for generations, including Prince Hall Masons, Order of the Eastern Star, Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the World, and a host of auxiliary bodies, social clubs, and civic organizations that continue to build, support, and sustain our neighborhoods.
These organizations are not just social networks—they are engines of scholarship, mentorship, economic empowerment, and advocacy. They produce leaders, shape policy, guide youth, and stand on the front lines of community advancement.
This section is designed to do more than highlight events—it is a platform to tell the deeper story.
Here, the Argus will spotlight leadership, legacy members, emerging voices, and the everyday work happening across chapters. From service initiatives and youth development programs to national influence and local impact, this space will capture the full scope of what these organizations represent.
Their work is often done without fanfare—but its impact is undeniable.
Through features, interviews, event coverage, and historical reflections, this section will serve as both record and recognition—a place where legacy is honored, and future impact is amplified.
At the Argus, we don’t wait for others to validate our institutions.
We tell our stories.
If you have upcoming events, notable achievements, or acknowledgements of significance, please forward them to info@stlargusnews.com for consideration and coverage.
