KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Philadelphia Eagles outlasted the Kansas City Chiefs 20–17 on Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium, seizing an early-season statement win in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII.
The night belonged to the Eagles’ defense and their ability to deliver timely plays. Rookie safety Andrew Mukuba came up with the game’s biggest moment in the third quarter, intercepting Patrick Mahomes in the end zone after a pass slipped through the hands of Travis Kelce. The turnover halted a potential go-ahead drive and shifted momentum squarely in Philadelphia’s favor.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts managed the game with efficiency, finishing with 180 passing yards and adding 35 yards on the ground. His signature ‘Tush Push’ quarterback sneak sealed the win, capping a fourth-quarter drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge that gave Philadelphia a 20–10 cushion.
The Eagles’ offense leaned on balance, with Saquon Barkley grinding out 75 rushing yards and a score, while wide receiver A.J. Brown led the air attack with six catches for 82 yards.
Mahomes did everything he could to rally the Chiefs late. He threw for 245 yards and two touchdowns, including a dramatic 49-yard strike to Tyquan Thornton with just over three minutes left. Thornton finished with 65 yards on two catches, while Kelce was held to 51 yards on five receptions and haunted by the costly drop that turned into a turnover. Isiah Pacheco added 62 rushing yards but never broke free for a big gain against Philadelphia’s defensive front.
The Chiefs’ late surge narrowed the score to three, but the ensuing onside kick failed to travel the necessary distance, allowing the Eagles to run out the clock.
With the victory, Philadelphia improved to 2–0, cementing their strong start to the season. Kansas City, meanwhile, fell to 0–2 for the first time since 2014, raising early questions about the defending champions’ ability to bounce back.
