ST. LOUIS, MO — The St. Louis Argus, proudly serving the African-American community since 1912, extends a heartfelt welcome to the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) as it returns to St. Louis for its 118th International Holy Convocation, November 3–10, 2026.
The gathering marks a significant homecoming for one of the nation’s largest historically African-American Pentecostal denominations. Approximately 60,000 delegates, clergy, church leaders, and visitors are expected to participate in the celebration, bringing renewed spiritual energy and economic activity to the Gateway City.
Hosted at America’s Center Convention Complex, 701 Convention Plaza, the six-day Holy Convocation, November 3–8, will feature worship services, inspirational teaching, gospel music, fellowship, and organizational activities. The denomination’s General Assembly convenes November 9–10.
This year’s gathering is particularly meaningful because it represents COGIC’s first Holy Convocation in St. Louis since 2019. The denomination has committed to returning to the city for three consecutive years, through 2028.

A Legacy Rooted in Faith and Community
Founded in 1897 by Bishop Charles Harrison Mason, the Church of God in Christ has grown into an international religious institution whose influence reaches far beyond church sanctuaries.
For generations, COGIC congregations have helped strengthen African-American families through education, charitable assistance, spiritual development, and neighborhood engagement.
Its churches have served as places of refuge, leadership development, and community organizing, particularly during periods of racial segregation, economic hardship, and social transformation.
The Holy Convocation reflects this enduring legacy, uniting generations of believers in celebration of faith, service, and collective responsibility.
For St. Louis, the event represents more than a religious gathering. It reinforces the historical relationship between the Black church and the broader African-American community.

Economic and Cultural Significance
The return of COGIC also presents substantial opportunities for St. Louis businesses.
Hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, retailers, and hospitality establishments stand to benefit from increased visitor activity throughout the week.
Equally important is the opportunity for African-American-owned businesses, local vendors, and neighborhood entrepreneurs to participate in the economic benefits associated with the Convocation.
A gathering of this magnitude demonstrates how faith-based institutions contribute to community development and regional economic vitality.
A Warm Welcome From the Argus
Throughout its 114-year history, the St. Louis Argus has chronicled the achievements, struggles, and triumphs of African-American religious institutions.
The newspaper recognizes the Black church as a cornerstone of community leadership, educational advancement, civic engagement, and cultural preservation.
As bishops, pastors, missionaries, musicians, and congregants arrive from across the country and abroad, the Argus joins St. Louis residents in extending hospitality and appreciation.
Delegates are encouraged to review registration requirements, including the published November 6 deadline for collecting pre-registration materials, and confirm updates with event organizers.
To the leadership and membership of the Church of God in Christ: Welcome back to St. Louis!
May the 118th Holy Convocation inspire renewed faith, strengthen fellowship, and continue a powerful legacy of service.
